How To Build The Perfect Billiards, Snooker or Pool Table

There’s a skill to building premium billiards tables and Master Billiards have got it down to a fine art. Owner Peter McKee is one of Australia’s most experienced and respected craftsmen and is a self-confessed “real stickler for detail”. Peter oversees the making of each and every table that we produce and nothing short of perfection is ever good enough to bear the famed Master Billiards nameplate. Here’s how we ‘roll’…

Our 8-Step Billiard Table Construction Process

Step 1: Using mortice and tenon joints, mitre and dowel, we carefully construct the individual components of the traditional billiard table frame to the customer’s specifications (for example table legs could be square, fluted, tapered or ornate).

Step 2: The components are then taken to the customer’s site, be it a rumpus room, Club games room or office rec room.

Step 3: The table is then assembled on site, with legs and rails bolted on.

Step 4: The frame is levelled (via adjustable toes in the legs) and the Italian slate playing surface – ¾” or 1.5” depending on the size of the table – is fitted.

Step 5: Cushions made from premium quality moulded Australian rubber are fitted and levelled.

Step 6: The 100% woollen cloth is fitted and carefully stretched and glued over the top of the table. This cloth can come in traditional emerald green or a wide range of contemporary colours.

Step 7: The finishing touches are added in the form of solid brass pocket brackets covered in hand-stitched leather and top quality cotton nets.

Step 8: The table’s level is checked once more, the cloth brushed and the balls are racked up and ready for the proud new owner to christen his brand new billiards table.
